zara... i know i know... studs are sooooo hot right now, so hot that you have to put studs onto every single product in your store... i am always grateful for your quick sense of trend spotting, making it slightly more affordable for us designers who are usually underpaid but still big fans of your stuff. i just hope you won't sue anyone who tries to copy your stuff in the near future coz you are doing it yourself too.
but seriously, studs on every single thing? seriously?

finally found out 'who did this to Barbie and Ken'. if you have read my last blog entry you will have seen the barbie lips necklace which i think is the creepiest necklace is the whole wide world, and today i came across this article from Stylesight about the whole collection of plastic doll parts accessories. it is really an extraordinary concept, to an extend i think they are not for wearing, but also an art collection that creates noise - i personally felt dolls being ripped apart are kinda violent and yet as kids we might have done similar things to our toys... and at the same time it is ridiculously hilarious, who could have thought a bunch of asses and nipples can become jewelry?
Margaux Lange - I enjoy the funny juxtaposition of wearing the body, on the body. Barbie has become the accessory instead of being accessorized. I take pleasure in the contrast and contradiction of transforming something mass-produced into unique, handmade, wearable pieces of art.

tom binns. saw his work recently in my fav blog connected to fashion, couldn't help searching for his site immediately and i discovered these beautiful and edgy jewelry. neon accessories are all over the place these days, it is impossible not to fall in love with this trend as it is perfect for the cheerful summer. luckily, fast fashion save the world again - there are cheaper alternatives or even you can DIY.
hmm... maybe i should try doing it too... there are blogs showing how to do it. the right necklace from shum shui po, painting it with neon colour nail polish... it looks so easy!!

spotted these stamp sets from Stylesight - this set of stamps which is launched by Royal mail UK, celebrates ten of the most notable fashion designers in Great Britain, and yes McQ is in it. they reminded me of my boarding school days when i will check every month for new collective stamp sets from the remote post office for my dad (i was in Ashford, Kent, UK back then). he was a collectives fanatic, in fact he collects anything that he likes, from hummel dolls to crystals, from precious china tea sets to vase from the Qing dynasty, he has them all. stamps are just a very small part of his whole thing.
these illustrations wowed me - they are by Mark Powell from London, he uses biro pens to made these drawings. this is something i used to do too, doodling on envelops, calculating bills, scribbling telephone numbers, marking down messages. people don't post things these days anymore, the internet is just too convenient. so these hand written envelops with ink chops are actually quite precious. love how the drawings are full of textures, character, details.
to me, these elderly people's portraits could mean how the analogue side of our civilization is fading away, are we gradually forgetting things that are actually important?
